Josephine's Crown quartz is a wonderful stone found in southern Oregon. The splashes of gold are made of minerals such as pyrites, but they give the stone the richness of true gold. The patterning in this cabochon looks like a gnarled tree leaning out from a cliffside, with golden fall leaves. I extended the tree with an 18K gold branch, and added a few fine silver stars, as I saw a moonlit sky behind that tree. I darkened the back a bit and polished the branch and stars up. I used the same scene in the back as a cut-out behind the stone. The hand cut bail is riveted.
